China's chrome ore imports increase, South Africa is the main supplier
In October 2023, China's total chrome ore imports was 1,482,700 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 500 tons, down 0.03%, and a year-on-year increase of 515,500 tons, or 53.3%. Among them, the chrome ore imported from South Africa was 1,179,500 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 10,000 tons from last month, down 0.84%, and a year--on-year increase of 322,500 tons, or 37.63%. Chrome ore imported from Zimbabwe was 61,600 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 42,500 tons, down 40.83%, and a year-on-year increase of 29,200 tons, or 90.12%.
From January to October 2023, China imported 14,529,600 tons of chrome ore, a year-on-year increase of 15.76%. Among them, the chrome ore imported from South Africa was 11,678,700 tons, a year-on-year increase of 1,501,800 tons, or 14.76%.
From the increase of imports, it can be known that China's ferrochrome production capacity is increasing, and the chrome ore imported from South Africa has increased significantly, indicating that South African chromium ore has a price advantage and is more attractive.
