The Latin American Steel Association is a civil non-profit entity that represents the Steel Value Chain's (steel, ferroalloys and related companies) and reflects the attributions of innovation and sustainability distinctive for this industry. It has been recognized as a Non-Governmental International Organization by the Chilean government, which General Secretariat in Santiago of Chile, and acts as a special consultant for the United Nations.

Since it was founded in 1959, the Latin American Iron and Steel Institute has always sought to promote the values of a regional integration in the industry to strengthen and defend interests and rights of steel manufacturing companies. Those are the same values that currently support and have originated the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero).

The new brand now evinces the Steel Value Chain's contemporary attributes to reflect the concepts of sustainable development and corporate social responsability, and above all the creative a vision of the future to which Alacero is permanently committed.
