PrintGlencore Xstrata’s nickel output fell 4% year-on-year to 98,400 tonnes in 2013, with some operations going under care and maintenance following low nickel prices.
Falcondo operation in the Dominican Republic was placed on care and maintenance in October 2013. During 2013, Falcondo produced 9,400 tonnes offerronickel, a 38% reduction against 2012, the company announced.
Glencore produced a total of 750,600 tonnes of copper cathode in 2013, up 21 percent on the year before, mainly due to a recovery at copper smelter Pasar, in the Philippines, which was affected by a fire in 2012.
Pasar has been shut since November due to structural damage sustained when a powerful typhoon battered the Philippines.
