Namibia’s strategic mineral reserves have also attracted significant economic and trade relationships with Western nations. The United States and European Union countries remain primary aid donors. However, in recent years, Namibia has embraced its “Looking East” policy, fostering deeper ties with Asian nations, including China, Japan, Indonesia, India, and others.

China values Namibia’s balanced and autonomous foreign policy and considers the bilateral relationship a cornerstone of its African strategy. Since establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2018, the two nations have consistently worked to expand their collaboration. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized Beijing’s commitment to deepening the traditional friendship with Namibia, fostering mutually beneficial cooperation, and promoting development for the benefit of both nations’ peoples.

The partnership focuses on aligning development strategies and creating new areas of collaboration in agriculture, clean energy, infrastructure, energy minerals, and science and technology. Wang also highlighted China’s readiness to support Chinese companies in investing and establishing businesses in Namibia, encouraging the country to facilitate and support such initiatives. China reaffirmed its unwavering support for Namibia in regional and global forums, emphasizing the importance of multilateral strategic coordination to strengthen the solidarity of the Global South. Beijing aims to contribute to building a community with a shared future for humankind, aligning with Namibia’s vision of sustainable and inclusive development.
