Singapore's Energy Market Authority (EMA) and Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) have called for expressions of interest (EOIs) to build, own and operate low or zero-carbon power generation and bunkering projects on Jurong Island.
The city-state launched its national hydrogen strategy in October and in line with this, aims to explore the use of low- or zero-carbon fuels like hydrogen and ammonia for power generation and bunkering. It is also considering low-carbon alternatives such as electricity imports and domestic renewable energy sources.
The EOIs will "enable Singapore to assess the viability of such projects, and support the development of the safety standards, regulations and ecosystem needed," said the EMA.
Low- or zero-carbon hydrogen and ammonia solutions may also be extended to the energy, chemicals and aviation industries, the EMA added.
Singapore has already been looking into the use of hydrogen in its aviation and maritime sectors as part of efforts to achieve its net zero emissions by 2050 goal.
Proposals must be put forth to the EMA by 23:59 Singapore time (15:59 GMT) on 30 April 2023, with queries submitted no later than 16 January 2023.
