Market news: India’s Monnet Group will build in the Pavlodar region a ferrosilicon smelter worth $250 million, the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development said in a press release last Wednesday.

 

Production capacity will initially be up to 15,000 t/y, with plans to increase that to 50,000 t/y in a second stage. The first phase’s cost is $50 M, the second’s $200 M.

 

The ferrosilicon will be mainly exported, the Interfax news agency reported the ministry as saying.

 

New Delhi-headquartered Monnet produces silicomangenese, ferromangenese and ferrochrome in India and also runs iron ore mining, coal mining and coal washing operations in the country.
