[Ferro-Alloys.com]Kobe Steel is currently under investigation by Japanese authorities in relation to the company's data falsification scandal that erupted in October, Kobe Steel said in a statement Wednesday. 

The company did not provide details about who was carrying out the investigation. 

Kobe Steel said on October 8 that it had falsified inspection certificates for aluminum and copper products supplied to customers. On October 26, the company said after an internal investigation that 525 customers had bought affected products, of which 520 said there had been no issues with safety or performance. Wire, stainless wire and processed plate with falsified data were supplied to 24 companies. 

In addition to Kobe's own investigation, an Independent Investigation Committee found that 163 companies had received products with false data. 

"Kobe Steel once again deeply apologizes for causing substantial trouble to all relevant parties," the company said in a statement. "With regard to the details of the investigation, Kobe Steel refrains from commenting as the investigation by the investigation authorities is in progress. Kobe Steel is sincerely responding to and cooperating with the investigation."
