Manganese is used in steel industry and an increased production in Balaghat would ensure availability of high-quality mineral, which in turn, would help iron and steel industry in India, Union minister said. He said it would facilitate development of Maoist-hit area and more people would be benefited and get employment.

The PSU expects to strike it rich in the area earmarked for fresh round of mineral mining.Union minister for steel and mines Narendra Singh Tomar told TOI, "A target has been set to double the production from existing 3 lakh tonnes to 6.50 lakh tonnes in 2025." The expansion plan includes investment in shaft sinking, beneficiation plant and solar project in the district bordering Maharashtra to improve existing facilities at MOIL, which has its headquarters in Nagpur, 204 km from Balaghat.Tomar said, "MOIL will now apply to the state government for composite licence." He said it would facilitate development of Maoist-hit area and more people would be benefited and get employment.
