In order to prevent jam, the calcium is put into the steel, which would desulfurize and change the inclusion. The calcium would change the solid Al2O3 into calcium aluminosilicate with low melting point, which would prevent the jam. However, the calcium and sulphur would react to generate CaS, which would cause jem.
