History
Sica was founded on 23rd of December in 2010 in Taiwan. After completing capital increase process in 2011, Sica was verified lawfully by the Investment Commission of Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs. On 19th of September in 2011, Sica received approval from the Board of Investment of Thailand (Certificate No. 2181(2)/2554) and established 100% reinvestment Sica New Materials (Thailand) Co., Ltd., hereunder referred to as Sica Thailand.

Sica Thailand legally acquired 532Rai (about 851,200 square meters) of industrial land in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. On 12th of December in 2012, Sica Thailand passed Environmental Impact Assessment consideration and became the first silicon metal and silicon carbide manufacturer to legally obtain EIA approval from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning. Sica Thailand’s annual capacity is 90,000 tons of silicon metal and 30,000 tons of silicon carbide. The estimated total investment is around THB 2,500,000,000.

Currently, Sica Thailand’s plant is undergoing the first phase construction which will produce 30,000 tons of silicon metal yearly and its phase one furnaces are expected to be fully operational by the end of 2013.
